Almost any magnet can be used in a generator design. SmCo, Ferrite and NdFeB tend to be used in generators.

We have an example magnet design. 8 arc magnets; each is diametrically magnetised. Four have the North on the outer diameter with the South on the inner diameter. Four have the South on the outer diameter with the North on the inner diameter. This allows an 8 pole configuration for the ring magnet shape (8 poles on the outer diameter and 8 poles on the inner diameter). We can make other magnet shapes and sizes for generators (e.g. arcs, trapezoids) upon request.
