An Introduction to Towable Magnetic Sweeper

Based on the same magnetic system used in the Fork Lift Truck Magnetic Sweeper, the Towable Magnetic Sweeper has a steel tow bar hitch coupling (to allow connection to a tow bar) and is fitted with solid elastic rubber wheels added to the Magnetic Sweeper main body. The Towable Magnetic Sweeper is sometimes referred to as a Tow Behind Sweeper. The 150 mm diameter caster wheels are high speed wheels (10mph / 16kph maximum). Use at slower speeds maximises the efficiency of collection of ferromagnetic objects. Travelling at speeds above 10 mph will result in wheel damage and the Towable Magnetic Sweeper could become unstable over rough terrain (e.g. bouncing). This Tow Behind Sweeper is meant only for private road usage and is not designed for use on public roads.

The Towable Magnetic Sweeper easily picks up ferrous nuts, bolts, screws, nails, mild steel shards, iron filings, tramp metal and scrap iron. To clean simply wipe the protective stainless steel casing with a cloth (a wooden or plastic scraper or spatula will also suffice). By simply lifting the tow hitch section into the air until the magnetic sweeper rests against the base of the hitch section, access to the underside for maintenance cleaning is quickly achieved.

The standard size for the active magnetic base is 1.25m across. The magnetic base can be increased or decreased easily by lengths of 150mm. The total width of a standard sized Towable Magnetic Sweeper is approximately 1.44m. The sweeper is 44mm above the surface to be swept (the actual height may vary from front to back depending on the height of the tow bar). This sweep height can be raised or lowered by around 20mm upon request. The shaft connecting the tow hitch to the main magnetic base is approximately 1.5m in length. The device is 1.6m long.

A handle system to convert from a tow behind sweeper system to a move-by-hand unit (to make it into the Industrial Hand Held Magnetic Sweeper) is available separately. We can also convert the handle system to fit other fittings (e.g. hole only or eye bolt for allowing pin connection to back of fork lift trucks).
