Alnico Grades
THE ORIGINAL ONLINE MAGNET COMPANY
The Alnico magnets have a potentially oversimplified nomenclature. With a small bit of additional information, it is easy to clarify every single grade
There are many grades of Alnico magnet. We offer 17 grades of Cast Alnico, 10 grades of Sintered Alnico and 2 grades of bonded Alnico.
The range of grades cover what is known to many as Alnico 2, Alnico 3, Alnico 5, Alnico 6, Alnico 8 and Alnico9, Alnico5-7 and Alnico5DG. Other names exist for Alnico but they tend to be trade names.

Many magnet suppliers provide only a single BH curve for Alnico, which is almost always the Normal curve. Whilst the Normal curve and the Intrinsic curve are nearly identical in Alnico, when designing for temperature and external magnetic field effects, the Intrinsic BH curve has to be used for accurate results. Although this may not be seen as logical when looking at Alnico BH curves, when designing with BH curves for NdFeB, SmCo or Ferrite, the difference between the Normal and BH curves is much clearer to see and designing with the Normal curve would give highly inaccurate results. ).
