Neodymium magnets come in various grades, N52 and N42 are the most common, with N55 being the strongest grade commercially available. Neodymium magnets have a max operating temperature of 80 degrees Celsius. The magnets are prefixed with the letters N, and then that is followed with a number, the higher that number is the stronger that magnet is. The starting point is N35 and that increases through to N52, the number relates to the maximum energy product of that magnet.

How long do neodymium magnets last?

Neodymium magnets will last 100’s of years, as long as they are looked after and kept in optimum conditions. Permanent magnets are estimated to lose approximately 5 % of their magnetism every one hundred years.

The magnetic performance can be affected if the magnets are damaged, if you exceed the maximum operating temperature of a magnet this will certainly cause damage to it. Neodymium magnets are extremely corrosive, if the coating on the magnet's surface is damaged the magnet may corrode.
